Gunmen shot dead two persons and injured another in Srinagar on Friday morning. Initial reports suggest the trio were fired upon from a close range in Srinagar’s congested locality of Karfali Mohalla in the old city around 11 a.m. “The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital where two were declared brought dead,” said a police official. The third injured was being treated, he added.
Preliminary reports suggest two deceased, identified by locals as Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Nazir Ahmad, were political workers from National Conference. “The whole area has been sealed,” said the police official to INS India. The police have not confirmed the identities of the victims.
The killings took place just three days ahead of the first phase the urban local body elections.
