Madhepura DM Declares Ramganj Project a Benchmark for North Bihar; Applauds Ramalaya Foundation and CSIR–NBRI for Scientific Leadership

During his field visit, DM Taranjot Singh highlighted the Ramganj initiative as a breakthrough model for scientific honey production, biodiversity revival, and sustainable rural livelihoods in North Bihar.

Madhepura, Bihar | 20 November 2025

Madhepura District Magistrate Shri Taranjot Singh, IAS, conducted an on-site review of the Scientific Honey Bee Management & Biodiversity Restoration Project in Ramganj village, describing it as a powerful step toward building a scientific honey corridor and restoring ecological balance across North Bihar.

Calling the initiative “forward-looking and community-centred,” the DM praised the efforts of Ramalaya Foundation and its social enterprise Earth & Forest for bringing structured training, ecological understanding, and sustainable livelihood opportunities to rural communities. He also acknowledged Mr. Prashant Kumar for his leadership and commitment through the Ramya initiative, which aims to reconnect villagers with nature while promoting climate-resilient development.

Recognition for CSIR–NBRI’s Scientific Contribution

DM Singh highlighted the major role played by CSIR–NBRI/NBRL Lucknow, which is guiding the project under the CSIR Floriculture Mission Phase-II.
He appreciated Principal Scientists Dr. Bikarma Singh and Dr. Sushil Kumar for providing scientific support in pollination ecology, vegetation planning, and advanced skill development for farmers.

On-Ground Assessment and Community Interaction

During his field visit, the District Magistrate:

  • Addressed trained farmers and handed over certificates
  • Spoke with villagers about future livelihood prospects
  • Inspected honeybee box installations and biodiversity restoration plots
  • Encouraged farmers to adopt scientific beekeeping for long-term income stability

He emphasized that the success of such initiatives depends on continuous community participation and scientific implementation.

Departmental Convergence for Effective Execution

DM Singh instructed the Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest, KVK, Jeevika, Block, and District Administration teams to work in close coordination.
He directed all departments to extend full cooperation to Ramalaya Foundation and CSIR–NBRI to ensure fast and effective implementation of the project.

District Administration’s Vision

The District Magistrate expressed confidence that Ramganj has the potential to develop into North Bihar’s leading scientific honey production cluster and a regional biodiversity hub.
He assured complete administrative support to scale up the initiative in the future.

About the Project

The Ramganj project is jointly led by Ramalaya Foundation under its Earth & Forest Social Enterprise, in collaboration with CSIR–NBRI.
The initiative trains 40 farmers, establishes 200 scientific honeybee boxes, and develops a biodiversity restoration model to strengthen pollination services and enhance rural livelihoods.
