Kalyan Kumar Shaw, a devoted member of the Tatanagar Railway Civil Defence unit, has brought national recognition to his team by securing the second position in the highly esteemed ‘Flood and Cyclone Response Course’ conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Academy in Nagpur.

The intensive five-week course featured 32 participants from across India, including representatives from Civil Defence, Home Guards, State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF), and the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The program was designed to enhance professional capabilities in handling large-scale emergencies such as floods and cyclones, with training modules focused on submerged building rescues, rapid response deployment, and civilian evacuation procedures.

Shaw stood out for his exceptional performance across written tests, field exercises, and oral assessments. His efforts earned him the second-highest ranking in the country and a certificate of merit presented by DIG Dr. Hari Om Gandhi of the NDRF.

Commending the achievement, Tatanagar Civil Defence Inspector Mr. Santosh Kumar said:

“Personnel like Kalyan Shaw are pillars of our disaster response force. His achievement reflects not only personal dedication but also the strength and preparedness of our entire unit. We are proud and committed to sending more such talent for national-level training.”

Shaw’s success exemplifies the spirit of discipline, commitment, and service. It also highlights the excellence of the Tatanagar Railway Civil Defence force, which continues to stand at the forefront of emergency response with the enduring motto: “Service is Duty.”
