The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has entered into a crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon Seller Services Pvt. Ltd. to empower artisans registered under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme by enhancing their access to digital markets. The agreement, signed at Nirman Bhawan in New Delhi between the Office of the Development Commissioner (MSME) and the Amazon team, aims to bring traditional artisans into the mainstream e-commerce ecosystem.

Launched on 17 September 2023, the PM Vishwakarma Scheme is designed to provide complete end-to-end assistance to artisans practicing age-old crafts and trades rooted in India’s cultural heritage. The scheme supports artisans by improving product quality through modern toolkits and training, increasing market access, enabling credit support, and preserving traditional guru-shishya parampara skills.

Amazon to Enable Digital Integration of Vishwakarma Artisans

Through this collaboration, Amazon will streamline the onboarding of eligible Vishwakarma artisans onto its online marketplace. This will help artisans expand their reach, connect with customers nationwide and globally, and showcase their unique handcrafted products.

The Ministry of MSME will facilitate necessary approvals, documentation, and departmental clearances as required. The partnership will also strengthen the promotion of handmade products through Amazon’s Karigar program, an initiative dedicated to supporting Indian handicrafts and helping artisans embrace digital commerce.

Support for a Wide Range of Traditional Trades

The partnership covers a variety of craft-based professions including:
• Carpentry
• Pottery
• Metalsmithing
• Goldsmithing
• Sculpture
• Tailoring
• Locksmithing
• Basket, mat, and coir making
• Doll and toy making
• Garland making
• Cobbler and leather work
and other product-based trades that form the backbone of India’s traditional artisan communities.

Promoting Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat

This MoU marks a significant step in advancing the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat by enabling grassroots artisans to leverage digital platforms for economic growth. Enhanced digital visibility will help artisans reach new markets, increase sales, and sustain traditional crafts that have been passed down for generations.

Presence at Amazon Smbhav Summit 2025

PM Vishwakarma beneficiaries also showcased their work at the Amazon Smbhav Summit 2025 held on 10 December 2025 in New Delhi. The summit served as an important platform for sellers and entrepreneurs to learn about the PM Vishwakarma initiative and explore opportunities to collaborate with Vishwakarma artisans.
