Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 Conclude at JLN Stadium with Strong Participation

Organised by DPSA, the state-level championship saw 110 para-athletes compete across age categories, highlighting resilience, competitive spirit, and Delhi’s growing para-sports ecosystem.

The Divyang Para Sports Association of Delhi (DPSA) successfully organised the Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, on Saturday. The one-day championship featured the 3rd Senior and 2nd Junior and Sub-Junior state competitions, drawing participation from 110 para-athletes representing different districts of the national capital.

Recognised by the Government of Delhi and affiliated with the Paralympic Committee of India, DPSA hosted the event with the objective of strengthening Delhi’s para powerlifting framework and offering athletes a competitive platform ahead of national-level tournaments.

The championship was inaugurated by Dr. Arvind Menon, National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who attended as the chief guest, along with Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Menon emphasised that discipline, perseverance and consistency form the foundation of sporting excellence. He lauded the para-athletes for converting challenges into strength and said initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India are creating inclusive opportunities for talent across society to flourish.

Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, congratulated the participants on their determination and dedication, encouraging them to aim for excellence at national and international arenas.

The competition witnessed closely fought contests in senior women’s, senior men’s, and junior and sub-junior men’s categories. Winners were crowned across multiple weight divisions, reflecting the depth of talent in Delhi’s para powerlifting circuit.

In the senior women’s category, gold medals were claimed by Rajkumari (50 kg), Meera Kashyap (55 kg), Naziya (61 kg), Anju (67 kg) and Sahista (79 kg). Senior men’s winners included Bilal (49 kg), Dr. Ramgopal (54 kg), Gulfam Ahmad (59 kg), Vinod (65 kg), Chandan (72 kg), Amit Kumar (80 kg), Jagmohan (88 kg) and Kuldeep Kumar (97 kg). Pranjal (59 kg) and Hansh Khatri (65 kg) emerged victorious in the junior and sub-junior men’s categories.

DPSA President Parul Singh said the championship underlined the association’s commitment to providing an equitable and athlete-focused environment for para sports in Delhi. She added that consistent state-level competitions are vital for identifying talent and ensuring sustained development of para-athletes in the capital.
