7th Youth Parliament by MERI Draws More Than 400 Student Participants

Two-day event fosters democratic engagement, leadership skills, and policy-oriented dialogue among students from across India

New Delhi, January 20, 2026:

The Management Education and Research Institute (MERI), Delhi, through its CSR Club “Aaghaz” and NSS Unit, successfully organised the 7th Youth Parliament, powered by Unnati NGO, on January 17 and 18. The two-day event witnessed the participation of more than 400 students from schools and colleges across multiple states, making it a diverse and intellectually stimulating platform for dialogue on national and global issues.

The Youth Parliament began with a ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolising knowledge, unity, and democratic values. The inaugural session was graced by H.E. Diallo Boubacar, Ambassador of the Republic of Guinea; Professor Lalit Aggarwal, Vice President, MERI; Professor Deepshikha Kalra, Dean, MERI; and Dr. Lokesh Chugh, Founder and Chairman, Unnati Cell, along with senior faculty members and dignitaries. Their addresses set an encouraging tone for the proceedings and underscored the importance of youth participation in democratic processes.

The opening ceremony also featured a welcome dance that reflected cultural harmony and added vibrancy to the atmosphere.

To ensure a comprehensive and engaging experience, the Youth Parliament constituted eight committees, including the United Nations Organization, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, National Press, All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM), Review Commission, Indian Premier League (IPL), and the Marvel/DC Committee. These committees offered participants exposure to governance, media ethics, political negotiations, and popular discourse through innovative formats.

Over the two days, students actively took part in debates, policy discussions, press conferences, and simulated proceedings. The sessions highlighted participants’ research depth, analytical thinking, public speaking abilities, and teamwork, while providing practical insight into parliamentary functioning and democratic engagement.

The event concluded with a valedictory session attended by Shri Vivek Prakash, Deputy Chief Personnel Officer (IRPS). Addressing the gathering, he shared valuable insights on leadership, integrity in public service, and the role of youth in strengthening democratic institutions.

The 7th Youth Parliament emerged as a meaningful learning experience for participants, enhancing their understanding of democratic systems, contemporary issues, and responsible citizenship, while nurturing leadership skills, confidence, and collaborative spirit.
