29 August 2025, Tokyo

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Shigeru Ishiba attended the India-Japan Economic Forum, hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Keidanren in Tokyo. The event brought together prominent industry leaders, including CEOs from the India-Japan Business Leaders’ Forum.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the success of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, emphasizing collaboration in investment, manufacturing, and technology. He urged Japanese firms to deepen their engagement in India, citing the nation’s political stability, predictable policies, and business-friendly reforms, which have been validated by India’s recent credit rating upgrade. Modi noted India’s significant 18% contribution to global growth and its path to becoming the world’s third-largest economy, advocating for stronger ties in manufacturing (batteries, robotics, semiconductors, ship-building, nuclear energy), technology and innovation (AI, quantum computing, space, biotech), green energy, advanced infrastructure (mobility, high-speed rail, logistics), and skill development.

Prime Minister Ishiba underscored the potential for synergies between Indian talent and Japanese technology to build resilient supply chains. He outlined key priorities, including people-to-people connections, technology integration, green initiatives, and collaboration in high-tech sectors like semiconductors.

The 12th India-Japan Business Leaders’ Forum report was presented, reflecting the expanding industrial partnerships. Mr. Norihiko Ishiguro, Chairman and CEO of JETRO, announced multiple B2B MoUs signed between Indian and Japanese companies across sectors such as steel, AI, space, education, clean energy, and human resource exchanges, reinforcing the deepening economic ties between the two nations.
