Illegal Sweet Factory Operating in Sangam Vihar, Residents Complain of Stench and Filth

Unlicensed factory turns into a nightmare for locals

New Delhi, September 1, 2025

An illegal sweet-making factory running in Delhi’s southern locality of Sangam Vihar (Ward 168, Central Zone) has become a source of constant trouble for residents. According to reports, the unit has been operating without any valid license for a long time. Social organizations allege that the factory is not only spreading stench and filth in the area but also posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the community.

Unbearable stench in the neighborhood

Activists from local NGOs claim that the factory, located in Gali No. 7, E-Block, emits foul odors and unhygienic waste. Residents say that the constant stench makes it nearly impossible to breathe. Children and elderly people, in particular, are facing serious health problems due to the unhygienic conditions.

Major safety hazards ignored

The organizations also point out that highly flammable materials are being used during the sweet-making process. With no adherence to hygiene or safety standards, the factory poses a risk of a major accident at any time. Shockingly, there appears to be no monitoring or regulation in place.

Complaints falling on deaf ears

Locals allege that repeated complaints have been submitted to the concerned departments, but no concrete action has been taken so far. This has led to growing frustration and anger among residents, who accuse the administration of negligence.

Call for immediate action

NGOs have urged the municipal corporation and health department to immediately shut down the illegal factory and take strict action against those responsible. They warn that if authorities fail to intervene quickly, the situation could deteriorate further.

Protest brewing in the area

Residents have also threatened to launch collective protests if their grievances are not addressed soon. Many believe that unless swift action is taken, both public health and safety in the locality will remain at serious risk.
