Dr. K.A. Paul Urges Amit Shah to Enforce ‘Zero Tolerance’ After Attack on CJI Gavai

Calls for Arrest, Lifetime Disbarment of Advocate Involved in Supreme Court Incident

New Delhi: Global Peace Initiative founder and evangelist Dr. K.A. Paul has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging strict and immediate action against advocate Rakesh Kishore (71), who allegedly attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai during proceedings in the Supreme Court on October 6.

Describing the incident as “a shocking and contemptuous act that strikes at the dignity of the judiciary,” Dr. Paul expressed concern that the accused was released within three hours and had his belongings returned, calling it a “dangerous signal of impunity.”

He urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure the arrest, prosecution, and lifetime disbarment of the accused under relevant provisions of the BNS and Contempt of Courts Act, while also strengthening security for judges and court premises.

“If such conduct goes unanswered or is punished lightly, it will embolden radicals and extremists to threaten judges and court staff,” Dr. Paul warned in his letter.

Citing the 2008 incident in which an Iraqi journalist was jailed for throwing a shoe at then–US President George W. Bush, Dr. Paul said India too must demonstrate “firm and impartial action” to preserve the judiciary’s sanctity.

He also mentioned that weak enforcement would “damage India’s global credibility” and urged the Home Minister Amit Shah to reaffirm zero tolerance toward any assault or intimidation of judicial officers.
