Delhi Police Organizes Debate Competition at MERI College

Students discuss pros and cons of online content on Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary

New Delhi: To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of SardarVallabhbhai Patel, the Delhi Police (West District), under the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Community Policing Cell, Janakpuri, organized a Debate Competition on the theme ‘Impact of Social Media and Online Content’ at MERI College, Janakpuri.

More than 70 students from the BA(JMC) of MERI College enthusiastically participated in the debate, speaking both for and against the motion. Their speeches reflected a wide range of perspectives on how social media influences youth, families, and society at large. After rigorous deliberation, the jury members selected five winners- BhumiDahiya (fist), Jessica (Second), Vanshjeet (third) and two others- Tanishka Singh and Manisha.

The event was organized under the guidance of Prof. LalitAggarwal, VP Meri Group of Institutions. On this occasion, ASI of Delhi Police ShyamSundar expressed his views. He advised students not share or like content without knowing the fact. He urged them to be alert in the digital era, stating that “the youth of today must not only be consumers of content but also responsible guardians of truth and integrity.

In his welcome address, the HoD of Journalism and Mass Communication extended a warm welcome to the Delhi Police officials and highlighted the extraordinary life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This event was part of the Community Policing Cell, Janakpuri’s series of youth engagement programmes, which commenced on July 26, 2025, and will continue till October 31, 2025, with awards and recognitions being conferred on participating students across different institutions.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. Sadanand Pandey, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Delhi Police for choosing Journalism and Mass Communication Department of MERI College as a platform for such youth-centric initiatives. The event was anchored by BA(JMC) student Kritika Sharma.
