Nobel Peace Prize Committee prioritizes genuine peace efforts, dismissing Trump’s repeated false claims to resolve global conflicts, from Russia–Ukraine and India–Pakistan to other international crises.
New Delhi, October 11, 2025:
Renowned humanitarian and peace activist Dr. K.A. Paul on Saturday commended the Nobel Peace Prize Committee for selecting a deserving laureate while rejecting former U.S. President Donald Trump’s self-promotional campaign for the award. Dr. Paul highlighted that Trump’s repeated claims to resolve major conflicts—including the Russia–Ukraine war and India–Pakistan tensions—proved unfounded.
Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Dr. Paul explained why Trump was rightly overlooked and praised the committee for upholding the award’s integrity by recognising those who make genuine, sustained efforts for global peace.
“The Nobel Peace Prize should honour those who work selflessly for harmony and reconciliation, not those who seek it through political theatrics,” Dr. Paul said. “The committee’s decision reflects their commitment to rewarding real peacemakers, not publicity-driven claims.”
Dr. Paul, who himself was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times (2003, 2005, 2006) but declined to accept it, emphasized that the award should recognise tangible, long-term contributions toward global peace rather than personal ambition or propaganda.
Seven Reasons Why Trump Was Not Considered for the Nobel Peace Prize
- Self-Promotion Over Merit – Genuine peacemakers are nominated by others. Trump campaigned publicly for the award, which the committee correctly viewed as self-aggrandisement.
- Pressuring World Leaders – Trump lobbied leaders, including prime ministers and presidents, politicising the prize. The committee recognised this manipulation.
- Empty Claims on Global Conflicts – Trump repeatedly claimed he could end the Russia–Ukraine war “within an hour” and mediate India–Pakistan tensions. Nine months later, conflicts continued unresolved.
- Escalating Middle East Tensions – Targeted killings and military actions under Trump intensified regional instability, contrary to the ethos of a peacemaker.
- Support for Gaza Blockade – Trump backed the Israeli blockade of Gaza, restricting access to food, water, and medicine for over a million civilians.
- Proposal to Displace Palestinians – His plan to resettle millions in neighbouring countries threatened stability and violated human rights.
Concluding his remarks, Dr. Paul said, “The Nobel Committee has sent a strong message by recognising a true advocate of peace while rejecting propaganda. Peace is defined by action, compassion, and integrity—not rhetoric. I salute their wisdom and vision.”
