Governor Gurmit Singh’s encouragement strengthens sustainable rural development and traditional knowledge promotion

New Delhi: Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.) and Minister Shri Dhan Singh Rawat today launched the 2026 calendar by Namami Gau Matram Foundation, Jaipur, designed to highlight the protection, training, and utility of indigenous cows and bulls.

The calendar has been thoughtfully designed with a focus on the conservation, training, and productive utilization of indigenous cows and bulls.

During the event the Honorable Governor was also briefed about the significance of millet (Shri Anna)-based traditional beverages. He remarked that millets are not only highly beneficial for human health, but also play a crucial role in improving soil fertility, conserving groundwater, and maintaining ecological balance.

Information was also shared about the Balodaya Gurukul initiative, which is dedicated to reviving the training, protection, and utility of indigenous bulls.

It was highlighted that Utkarshini Bahuuddeshiya Sahkari Samiti, Haridwar, has purchased bulls trained at the Gurukul, and a bull-driven traditional oil mill (Ghani) will soon be established in Haridwar.

The Honorable Governor was further apprised of the “Save the Bulls” campaign and the initiatives undertaken during the Mahakumbh, where live demonstrations of a bull-driven ghani and flour mill showcased a traditional, self-reliant, and environmentally friendly way of life.

At the conclusion of the program, the Honorable Governor expressed his appreciation to the team behind the indigenous cow and bull-based calendar. He stated that creating such an inspiring and well-conceived calendar is truly commendable.

His encouraging words and blessings will further strengthen efforts towards cow and bull conservation, bull-based livelihoods, traditional knowledge systems, and sustainable rural development.
