New Delhi Station Gears Up for Festive Season: Chief Minister and MP Inspect Yatri Suvidha Kendra, Praise Railways’ Preparedness

Marking a major advancement in enhancing passenger experience, Mrs. Rekha Gupta, Chief Minister of Delhi, along with Shri Manoj Tiwari, Member of Parliament from North East Delhi, inspected the newly constructed Yatri Suvidha Kendra (Permanent Holding Area) at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) today. The inspection was attended by Shri Ashok Kumar Verma, General Manager of Northern Railway, and other senior railway officials, who provided a comprehensive briefing on the advanced facilities of the Kendra. Designed to accommodate up to 7,000 passengers at a time, this state-of-the-art facility underscores Indian Railways’ commitment to ensuring a seamless and comfortable travel experience, particularly during the bustling festive season.

Transforming Travel Experience at NDLS

The Yatri Suvidha Kendra has been meticulously planned to streamline passenger movement and alleviate congestion at one of India’s busiest railway stations. The Kendra is strategically divided into three distinct zones:

  • Ticketing Area: Spanning 2,860 square meters, equipped to handle ticketing needs efficiently.
  • Post-Ticketing Area: Covering 1,150 square meters, designed for smooth passenger flow after ticket purchase.
  • Pre-Ticketing Area: Spread across 1,218 square meters, facilitating easy access for passengers arriving at the station.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta lauded the initiative, stating, “The newly developed state-of-the-art Yatri Suvidha Kendra reflects the commitment of Indian Railways to provide comfortable travel to passengers during the festival season. This facility will significantly enhance the travel experience and manage the festive rush effectively.”

Cutting-Edge Amenities for Passenger Comfort

Northern Railway has equipped the Yatri Suvidha Kendra with a range of modern amenities to ensure passenger convenience, safety, and security. The key features include:

  • Ticketing Facilities: The Kendra boasts 22 modern ticketing counters and 25 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), ensuring quick and hassle-free ticket procurement.
  • Comfort and Ventilation: 18 High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fans have been installed to provide efficient cooling, creating a comfortable environment for passengers.
  • Sanitation and Hydration: A dedicated 652-square-meter toilet block and an RO-based drinking water system cater to the hygiene and hydration needs of travelers.
  • Information and Safety Systems: The Kendra is equipped with a robust passenger announcement system featuring 24 speakers, three LED electronic train information displays, and a modern fire-fighting system with seven units to ensure safety and timely updates.
  • Security Measures: State-of-the-art security infrastructure includes 18 CCTV cameras, five luggage scanners, and five Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD), ensuring a secure environment for all passengers.

Railways’ Festive Preparedness Applauded

During the inspection, Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta praised the Northern Railway for its proactive measures to manage the festive rush. She remarked, “The festive season witnesses an unprecedented influx of passengers at railway stations. The establishment of this modern Yatri Suvidha Kendra is a commendable effort by Indian Railways to ensure a smooth and comfortable journey for millions of travelers.”

Shri Manoj Tiwari, MP, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the Kendra’s role in transforming New Delhi Railway Station into a more passenger-friendly hub. “As a key railway station in the national capital, NDLS serves as a gateway for millions. This new facility not only enhances passenger comfort but also showcases Indian Railways’ dedication to operational excellence,” he said.

Northern Railway’s Vision

Shri Ashok Kumar Verma, General Manager of Northern Railway, highlighted the significance of the Yatri Suvidha Kendra in improving crowd management and passenger amenities. “Our goal is to provide a safe, convenient, and comfortable travel experience. The Yatri Suvidha Kendra is a pivotal step in this direction, ensuring that passengers have access to world-class facilities at New Delhi Railway Station,” he stated.
