New Delhi, February 4, 2026:
The MERI Group of Institutions on Tuesday launched what it called India’s first institutional space club, with over 200 students enrolling on the opening day.
Set up under the Department of Space Studies (DSS), the MERI Space Club aims to introduce students to space science, astronomy and emerging aerospace technologies, with participation open beyond traditional engineering streams.
Lalit Aggarwal, Vice-President of the MERI Group, said the initiative aligns with India’s growing role in the global space ecosystem and seeks to foster scientific temper and innovation among students.
The launch featured interactions with experts from the defence and space education sectors. PJS Pannu, Chief Mentor of the DSS, said the club would build a supportive ecosystem for students interested in space sciences. Space education entrepreneur Kesan stressed inclusive space learning, particularly for girls, while innovator Shree Supranayi encouraged students from diverse disciplines to explore opportunities in the sector.
The event included a quiz and interactive session, with selected students receiving “Stars and Planets” badges. Senior faculty members and retired defence officers were also present.
Organisers said the club will function as a long-term academic platform linking students with space research, innovation and policy discussions.
