Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), a premier institution in commerce and economics education, formally commenced its centenary celebrations with a grand Curtain Raiser ceremony at the University of Delhi’s North Campus on Friday. The event marked the beginning of a year-long programme to celebrate the institution’s hundred-year journey and its enduring contribution to India’s economic and institutional development.

Marking its centenary year from 1926 to 2026, SRCC used the occasion to reflect on its evolution alongside India’s own economic transformation. The Curtain Raiser unveiled a comprehensive roadmap of academic conferences, policy dialogues, alumni engagements, and international collaborations planned throughout the year to prepare the institution for the challenges of the next century.

The ceremony was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, Prof. Yogesh Singh, who attended as the Chief Guest, along with Mr. Ajay S. Shriram, Chairman of the SRCC Governing Body. The event began with a floral tribute to Sir Shri Ram, the visionary industrialist who founded the institution in 1920 as The Commercial School, laying the foundation for indigenous business and economic education in India.

A commemorative coffee table book titled Timeless Frames was also released, capturing SRCC’s journey from its early days in Daryaganj to its present stature as a globally respected academic institution.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Yogesh Singh described SRCC as a globally recognised academic brand whose influence extends well beyond rankings and reputation. He said that over a century, the college has helped build institutions, nurture generations of leaders, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.

Referring to India’s recent milestone of becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy, Prof. Singh said this achievement highlights the importance of institutions like SRCC in producing world-class economists, entrepreneurs, administrators, and policy thinkers. He urged the college to focus on entrepreneurship, business incubation, artificial intelligence, and digital finance as it charts its future course.

In his address, Governing Body Chairman Mr. Ajay S. Shriram said the centenary Curtain Raiser was both a moment of reflection and a forward-looking exercise. He traced SRCC’s growth from modest beginnings to becoming a flagship institution in commerce and economics education, crediting its success to the collective strength of its faculty, students, staff, and alumni. He added that the college would prioritise academic excellence, research, innovation, sustainability, inclusion, and deeper alumni engagement in the years ahead.

Welcoming the guests, SRCC Principal Prof. Simrit Kaur said the centenary celebrations represent a shared achievement of generations associated with the institution. She emphasised that SRCC has consistently stood for ethical leadership, social responsibility, and national service, and would continue to uphold these values while nurturing future leaders.

The event also saw participation from several distinguished alumni and well-wishers who spoke about SRCC’s lasting impact. Sangeeta Jaitley, wife of late Union Minister Arun Jaitley, recalled the profound influence the college had on his thinking and public life. Former Supreme Court Judge Justice A.K. Sikri, FDCI Chairman Sunil Sethi, Jindal SAW Managing Director Sminu Jindal, former Union Minister Vijay Goel, and entrepreneur Neeraj Ghei also shared reflections on how SRCC shaped their personal and professional journeys.

The ceremony concluded with the illumination of the historic campus, symbolising the beginning of SRCC’s next century, followed by a cultural presentation featuring a Kathak–Bharatanatyam jugalbandi and a musical tribute celebrating the institution’s rich legacy.
