From Research to Reality: India Powers Ahead in Regenerative Medicine

Global Scientists Praise India’s Breakthroughs at IANR–SRS 2025 Summit in Delhi

India reaffirmed its growing global leadership in regenerative medicine as the 17th Annual Conference of the International Association of Neurorestoratology (IANR) and the 7th Annual Conference of the Society of Regenerative Sciences (SRS India) commenced today at The Ashok Hotel, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.

The two-day summit (October 17–18) has convened over 500 global experts, scientists, clinicians, and patient advocates from India and abroad to discuss cutting-edge innovations in stem cell therapy, neurorestoration, and regenerative healthcare.

Minister Jual Oram Inaugurates the Conference

Calls for Inclusion of Cell Therapy Under Ayushman Bharat

Hon’ble Minister of Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram inaugurated the conference, lauding India’s scientists for positioning the nation at the forefront of regenerative medicine.

“I will request Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji to consider including cell therapy for Divyang beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat,” he said.
“These breakthroughs can transform lives and make India a global hub for regenerative medicine.”

He further highlighted that India’s advancements reflect the country’s deep commitment to inclusive healthcare and scientific progress.

Health Minister J.P. Nadda Hails India’s Global Leadership

In a special video address, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri J.P. Nadda, commended the event and emphasized India’s leadership in scientific innovation:

“India is emerging as a global leader in regenerative medicine, with our doctors pioneering stem cell and cellular therapies. Events like IANR–SRS bridge research, policy, and clinical practice to bring real solutions to patients.”

Regenerative Medicine: A Ray of Hope for the ‘Untreatable’

The conference focuses on the therapeutic potential of regenerative and cellular medicine—a field that restores function in patients with previously untreatable neurological, orthopedic, and degenerative disorders.

With 2.68 crore Divyang citizens in India, experts highlighted that regenerative therapies can vastly improve patients’ quality of life.
India now ranks among the top global contributors to scientific publications on neurological disorders.

Dr. Alok Sharma: “India Leads the World in Regenerative Research”

Speaking on behalf of the Society of Regenerative Sciences (India),
Dr. Alok Sharma stated:

“Our research in regenerative medicine offers hope where conventional treatments fail. India leads globally in output and innovation, and with continued government support, we can ensure equitable access to these life-changing therapies.”

Dr. Sharma’s appointment as President of IANR for 2025 further cements India’s influence on the international stage.

Dr. Hongyun Huang: “India Has Surpassed China in Regenerative Medicine”

IANR Founding President Dr. Hongyun Huang praised India’s progress:

“We are deeply impressed by India’s advancements and the government’s commitment to research. India is now more advanced than China in regenerative medicine — a remarkable achievement that inspires collaboration worldwide.”

Global Collaboration and Policy Discussions

Experts from the USA, China, Poland, South Korea, Argentina, Hong Kong, and other nations joined discussions on:

  • Emerging trends in clinical neurorestoration
  • Advances in stem cell interventions
  • Translational research models
  • Policy frameworks for accelerating innovation

The sessions aim to build an ethical and sustainable ecosystem that aligns science with policy for public benefit.

Joint Appeal: Include Cellular Therapies Under Ayushman Bharat

In a strong collective call, doctors, researchers, and patient advocates urged the Government of India to include regenerative and cellular therapies for neurological, orthopedic, and chronic diseases under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
Such inclusion would make cutting-edge treatments affordable and accessible to millions.

Day 2 Outlook: Translating Science into Patient Care

The concluding day (October 18) will feature interactive sessions, expert panels, and global presentations focusing on:

  • Clinical translation of regenerative therapies
  • Regulatory and ethical integration
  • International collaborations and policy roadmaps

The discussions aim to establish a strong framework for integrating regenerative medicine into mainstream healthcare in India.
