Kashmir-Delhi Cargo Train Flagged Off: A New Era for Regional Trade

Eight-coach parcel train to boost connectivity, cut logistics costs, and strengthen economic ties

New Delhi, September 15, 2025

In a significant step towards enhancing connectivity and economic development, a parcel cargo train from Badgam Railway Station in Kashmir Valley to Adarsh Nagar, Delhi, was flagged off today by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, at Srinagar Railway Station. The train, comprising eight parcel van coaches with a weight capacity of 23 tonnes each, marks a new milestone in providing fast, safe, and cost-effective transport for goods from the region.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Jammu and Kashmir’s Agriculture Minister Shri Javid Ahmad Dar, Additional Member of Railway Board Dr. Manoj Singh, Divisional Railway Manager Jammu Shri Vivek Kumar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jammu Shri Uchit Singhal, Railway Area Chief Manager Kashmir Valley Shri Saqib Yusuf, along with senior officers and representatives of the local business community. The Jammu and Kashmir Police Orchestra Band added a patriotic fervor to the event with stirring performances.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha emphasized the initiative’s role in regional growth, stating, “This parcel cargo train service will provide a reliable and efficient transport solution, ensuring timely delivery of goods while reducing logistics costs. It is a proud moment for us to contribute to the economic development of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Divisional Railway Manager Shri Vivek Kumar hailed the launch as a historic achievement, noting, “Indian Railways is committed to nation-building, and this cargo train is a testament to our dedication to fostering economic progress.”

This new service is expected to strengthen trade links between Kashmir and Delhi, offering businesses a faster and more affordable logistics solution.
