National Press Day Marked with Prestigious Awards for Senior Journalists at PCI

Prominent media leaders share insights on ethics, credibility, and the evolving news landscape

New Delhi: To commemorate National Press Day 2025, the Press Club of India and the Accredited Journalists Association hosted an impressive event attended by senior journalists, media scholars, and representatives from various organisations.

Distinguished guests Shri Swadesh Bhushan, Shri K. Shivkumar, Shri Sudhir Mahajan (Retd. IAS) and Shri Anil Kumar Saxena (IIS) addressed the gathering, sharing their insights on the evolving media landscape, ethical standards in journalism, and the growing importance of information credibility. Their remarks shed new light on the challenges and responsibilities shaping the future of journalism.

Presiding over the event, Shri Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi, President of the Accredited Journalists Association, said,
“National Press Day is not merely a celebration—it is a moment for introspection. Fair, courageous and responsible journalism strengthens democracy. Integrity and social responsibility are the true identity of every journalist.”

Highlighting the rapidly changing media environment, Shri Neeraj Thakur, General Secretary of the Press Club of India, noted,
“The media landscape is evolving faster than ever. In this environment, journalists must embrace new technologies while upholding credibility, sensitivity and professional ethics.”

Emphasising the importance of press freedom, Shri Gautam Lahiri, President of the Press Club of India, said,
“Freedom of the press is the foundation of any democratic society. It becomes meaningful only when journalists can fearlessly raise questions on behalf of the people.”

A key highlight of the ceremony was the felicitation of senior journalists from various media organisations. Those honoured for their outstanding contributions to journalism included: Shri Dilbar Gothi, Shri Sanjeev Upadhyay, Shri Rakesh Thapliyal, Shri Ram Das, Shri Manas Banerjee, Shri Sushil Jhalani, Shri Guru Basavayya, Shri Shikoh Azad, Ms. Vinita Yadav, Shri Krishna Kumar Tiwari, Mohammad Ilyas, Shri Sushil Kumar, Dr. Sunil Parashar, Shri Sunil Sharma, Shri Rahul Sharma, Shri O.P. Gautam, among several others.

The ceremony was efficiently coordinated by General Secretary Shri Kodle Channappa and Treasurer Shri Jagan Negi, whose efforts ensured the smooth execution of the event.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to press freedom, impartial journalism and public interest—values that continue to inspire every member of the media fraternity present.
