Author Mansi Sharma unveiled her latest book, “Fundamentals of Competencies”, at Talakotra Indoor Stadium, shedding light on the real factors that determine workplace success and career advancement. The book emphasizes that traditional measures like exams and academic grades are insufficient predictors of performance, and that competencies are the true drivers of professional achievement.
Drawing inspiration from renowned psychologist David McClelland, Sharma illustrates how traits, motives, skills, attitudes, and self-concept shape high-performing individuals. While conventional assessments often reflect social status or educational background, competency-based evaluations focus on practical behaviors and actions that distinguish top performers from their peers.
The book also stresses fairness and inclusivity in assessments. By moving beyond abstract scores, competency models provide organizations with a more equitable approach to identifying, nurturing, and retaining talent. These models have applications across talent acquisition, employee training, performance management, succession planning, and career development initiatives.
Speaking at the launch, Sharma highlighted how modern workplaces demand actionable insights rather than theoretical measures. Professionals, HR leaders, and organizational strategists in attendance noted the relevance of the book in addressing the evolving needs of today’s workforce.
“Fundamentals of Competencies” serves as both a practical guide and a roadmap for individuals and organizations aiming to cultivate excellence, demonstrating that real workplace success comes from capabilities, not merely credentials.
